Love, Liz.

Set in a fragmented Elizabethan clothing style, Rio designed the suitors to be more formal and period appropriate than the rest of the costumes. Their intention was to separate these men, and make them seem out of touch in comparison to the ladies. Each of the four suitors was designed with their own shape and color palette, to express how unique their personalities and attitudes towards the queen were. While King Eric is a classic charmer with baby blues and a massive heart appliqué on his chest, the unlikable King Philip has a cold and menacing look with his regal silhouette. The four suitors were played by two actors, and were required to perform speedy quick changes throughout the show. These designs accommodated for the necessary quick changes while still conveying each character’s personal style.

Love, Liz was a hilarious romp through history as Queen Elizabeth I of England decided who (or whether) she wanted to marry. Rio Dubin, the assistant costume designer, designed and aided in stitching for the four suitors of this production.
